Dickens original motivation for writing the story was financial. His last book didn't sell well and he needed to generate some income quickly. He hit upon an idea and began formulating the story in his mind as he walked the poor streets of London at night. He wrote to a friend that, as he was writing the story, he laughed and cried. Dickens loved the book so much that he invested his own money into the publication and included a lavish cover and color illustrations. Despite it's tremendous popularity it lost money in it first printing.

Our version has always tried to remain faithful to Dickens original work and the love he had for it. This year more than ever that will be so. We have gone back to the book, and using Story Theater to tell the tale, we will have a more faithful production than ever before and using this style of theatre we will be able to bring the voice of Dickens himself, through his words. like never before. Every year we change production aspects from the previous year but, this year we hope to bring you a more faithful telling of this classic story than you have ever seen before.  Make this, the longest running production of "A Christmas Carol" in Nashville, a holiday tradition for your family, and God bless us everyone.

When Elwood P. Dowd starts to introduce his imaginary friend, Harvey, a six-and-a-half-foot rabbit, to guests at a society party, his sister, Veta, has seen as much of his eccentric behavior as she can tolerate. She decides to have him committed to a sanitarium to spare her daughter, Myrtle Mae, and their family from future embarrassment. Problems arise, however, when Veta herself is mistakenly assumed to be on the verge of lunacy when she explains to doctors that years of living with Elwood's hallucination have caused her to see Harvey also! The doctors commit Veta instead of Elwood, but when the truth comes out, the search is on for Elwood and his invisible companion. When he shows up at the sanitarium looking for his lost friend Harvey, it seems that the mild-mannered Elwood's delusion has had a strange influence on more than one of the doctors. Only at the end does Veta realize that maybe Harvey isn't so bad after all.
